Dzīve ir skaista (2026)
Overview
LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL is a genre video that intertwines symbols and clichés that society perceives as opposites to life and beauty. The contrasts between the ugly and the attractive, the dead and the living, as well as the good and the bad raise the question: how much of this is a collectively imposed construct or an individual experience? This is reinforced by elements from Japanese butoh, or “dance of darkness,” which emerged in the 1950s as a reaction to war trauma and Western influence. By abandoning traditions and socially accepted “commandments,” grotesque images reveal a more naked view of a person’s experience of inner opposition and contradictions.
